CBS schedule changes intended to raise 'Extant' ratings

The new Steven Spielberg-produced drama Extant may experience an uptick in ratings with a little help from CBS.

The Associated Press reports that starting Wednesday, Extant, which stars Halle Berry, will be moved back an hour from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST.

CBS believes that Criminal Minds might be a better lead-in for Extant than its current lead-in, Big Brother.

According to Variety, CBS has made similar changes previously and they have worked. Earlier in the month, CBS moved Sunday drama Reckless to the 10 p.m. timeslot in place of Unforgettable, which stars Poppy Montgomery. Since the move, they have both seen increasing success with Unforgettable experiencing a boost in ratings while Reckless has had an increase in total viewers.

Last week, Extant drew in 6.5 million viewers, which was enough to make the Nielsen top 10. However 6.5 million was not the figure CBS was anticipating for its new show, and the show was beat out by two NCIS reruns.
