First look at Ian McKellen in new Sherlock Holmes movie, 'Mr. Holmes'

Sherlock Holmes is a very iconic character that has been around for some time and he keeps getting more popular. With television shows like Sherlock and Elementary, the British detective has been better than ever. The newest project about Sherlock Holmes seems to fit right in. Ian McKellen will be playing the detective in a new film and he shared the first picture of him in Holmes get-up.

McKellen put up the first image of him in Mr. Holmes on Twitter.

While Sherlock Holmes was created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this new film will be based on the book A Slight Trick of the Mind by Mitch Cullin. It is set in 1947 with a 93 year-old Holmes who is having memory trouble according to Empire.

The film will be directed by Bill Condon who is not new when it comes to working with Mckellen. The two were together in Gods and Monsters and Condon has won an Oscar for writing the film reports TheCelebrityCafe.com.

Mr. Holmes is expected to come out in 2015 but does not have a set release date at this time.
