Idris Elba is poised to reunite with his RocknRolla director Guy Ritchie for Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur, a historical epic in the works at Warner Bros.
Elba, who recently starred in Prometheus and headlines the acclaimed U.K. series Luther, will play Bedevere if he does officially sign on for the film. The older knight is one of King Arthur’s trusted sidekicks and trains the young Arthur.
According to TheWrap, Akiva Goldsman and Lionel Wigram are producing, along with Safehouse Pictures’ Tony Turrell and Joby Harold. The script was penned by Harold.
Elba is the first actor to be linked to the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, testing for the title role won’t start until next month.
Ritchie has been linked to the film since January, considering that he is now one of Warner Bros.’ favorite directors. He helmed both Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies and helmed January’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. He was also set to direct a prior version of the King Arthur story in 2010, but a high budget killed that project.
Elba’s next gig is voicing Shere Kahn for Disney’s Jungle Book.
Despite the lack of completed casting, Warner Bros. has scheduled Arthur for July 22, 2016.
