Jennette McCurdy denounces 'role model' label after lingerie scandal, 'Sam & Cat' cancellation

Jennette McCurdy is rejecting being labeled as a role model in a new rant she posted on Reddit, writing a lengthy explanation as to why she never claimed to be someone for kids to look up to.

Back in March, racy photos of the Disney actress in lingerie leaked, then just last week, her show with Ariana Grande, Sam & Cat, was cancelled.

McCurdy started off her Reddit post writing, ‘I am not a role model. I don't claim to be, I don't try to be, and I don't want to be.”

She continued that for a time in her life she did try to be and gave it her “best shot,” but admits she has grown up a lot since then.

“To remove myself from the role model battle, the falsified standard set by the bubblegum industry, is - in my eyes - to remove myself from the counterintuitive battle of attempting to be something perfect while being glaringly aware of my imperfections," she wrote.

She ended the post by thanking her supporters, but encouraging them to look up to role models in their “everyday life” instead of basing “your idea of a role model off of someone you know well enough to see purely, not in the light, cameras, and actions of Hollywood."
