Mel Gibson no longer financing his films, puts past behind him

By Elizabeth Learned,

Mel Gibson was recently asked about Gary Oldman’s comments surrounding his past troubles and the actor brushed off the eight-year-old scandal.

According to E! News, Oldman had made comments defending Gibson on the incident when he had been arrested eight years ago for a DUI. While some people still remember the incident, Gibson, the man in question, has been busy getting ready for the release of The Expendables 3 and has put the past behind him.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that when he was asked about the incident where he had made anti-Semitic comments, Gibson felt that it was no longer an issue that should be discussed.

“It’s behind me; it’s an 8-year-old story. It keeps coming up like a rerun, but I’ve dealt with it and I’ve dealt with it responsibly and I’ve worked on myself for anything I am culpable for.” The actor felt that as far as he was concerned, the issue was over and he has done everything that he has needed to do in order to move on.

Gibson also told THR that he decided to no longer finance his films, which he had done with previous films Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ. He doesn’t talk much about the films he does, as he said others will go out and do the same exact thing.

According to Gibson, “It’s a kind of industrial espionage thing and they do it badly for TV.”
