Naya Rivera’s status on the last season of Glee has been confirmed after weeks of speculation over whether the star would return for the sixth season.
TVLine reported that Rivera made the request that she would be billed as a recurring guest star and not be made a series regular. The producers respected her wishes, so Rivera will be in a limited number of episodes.
E! News reported that the announcement came after speculation ran rampant over whether Rivera’s departure came due to a spat with fellow co-star Lea Michele. However, sources told E! News this was untrue and one even said, “Naya wants to have more time to explore her music and other endeavors.”
Glee has had many cast changes over the years, so it remains to be seen just how often we will see Rivera, especially considering the show will likely run for half of the normal 22 episodes it had been slated to run for previously.
The show is also expected to return midseason in 2015, although no airdate has been set for the first episode.
