Christopher Walken was cast to play Captain Hook in Peter Pan Live on NBC, the network's chairman of entertainment revealed on Sunday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Bob Greenblatt discussed how Walken's background made him the perfect choice to play Captain Hook in the second planned live music from the network, the Los Angeles Times reports. "It might be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen."
Over the past few years, Walken has appeared in musicals, including the recent Jersey Boys and Hairsparay, with the latter a project he worked on with Peter Pan Live executive producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan.
"I started my career in musicals," Walken said in a statement, notes E! News. "And it's wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classical musical I watched as a child... "It's a chance to put on my tap shoes again."
The title character has yet to be cast, leaving the Captain Hook role the only major one filled. Greenblatt has claimed he wants Miley Cyrus to play Peter Pan.
The NBC musical is set to air Dec. 4.
