According to AceShowbiz Nickelodeon announced the cancellation Sunday and released a statement saying, “Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat. We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best.”

Ariana Grande, who plays Cat Valentine on the crossover spinoff of Victorious and iCarly, also addressed the cancellation. Grande thanked Nickelodeon for helping to fulfill what she called a “childhood dream” and admitted that although she hid behind the character of Cat Valentine (a character that was carried over from Victorious), she feels that the role was instrumental in her transition from teenager to adult.

Reports had circulated since April, speculating on whether or not the show would soon be coming to a close after it went on a production hiatus and rumors surfaced that there was tension on set, specifically between the show’s two leading ladies Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande.

McCurdy, who plays Sam Puckett, was reportedly unhappy about the fact that she was paid less than her co-star Grande and was denied a pay raise. Emotions also ran high after the show’s season was extended from 20 episodes to 40 episodes. The show was also faced with bad publicity stemming from racy lingerie photos of McCurdy that were leaked in March.

The final episode of Sam & Cat, titled #Getting Wiggy, will air Thursday, July 17.
