Authorities are investigating whether the remains found in a remote area of Mexico are those of a missing American traveler.
According to CNN, Darren Del Sardo, an attorney for Harry Devert's mother, said officials in Guerrero discovered a Kawasaki motorcycle and a decomposed body of a man on Thursday.
The body has not yet been identified, but the motorcycle found has been confirmed through VIN number as being Harry Devert's. His mother has provided a DNA sample and is said to have flown to Mexico on Saturday. She hopes to be able to view the remains found to see if she can identify anything that would indicate it is her son.
What happened to 32-year-old Devert remains a mystery.
The avid traveler from Westchester, New York, set out on a motorcycle journey from the U.S. to South America, but has not been heard from since January.
The last message Devert sent was to his girlfriend via WhatsApp saying that he was being escorted out of a dangerous area by the Mexican military. His worried family then began spreading the news about his disappearance on Facebook.
Devert was supposed to end his trip at the World Cup in Brazil.
