It’s no secret that the ABC Family teen drama Pretty Little Liars is a ridiculously popular show. Chock full of romance, murder, and extortion, PLL sends fans on a never-ending thrill ride complete with an endless number of cliffhangers and OMG! moments. And while the show may be primarily aimed at young girls, there’s another particular demographic who might find themselves eager for some more non stop mystery and adventure: classic literature and film enthusiasts.

Throughout the series, the writers of PLL have woven in references to multiple novels and paid homage to various films. Fans who are well versed in either of these areas can spot symbolism in mentions of To Kill A Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby and similarities between scenes from PLL compared with that of horror flicks such as Psycho and Don’t Look Now.
