A Bronx Tale was a film that was released in 1993. It is a story based on Calogero Anello growing up in a rough neighborhood in the Bronx, New York during the 1960s. Calogero idolizes a gangster figure named Sunny Lospecchio and grows closer to him as he grows into a teenager.
His father, Lorenzo Anello, does not approve of his son Calogero becoming closer to Sunny. Despite his father’s concerns, Calogero hangs around Sunny anyways. In the film, Sunny and Lorenzo are Calogero’s two father figures. Lorenzo is a disciplinarian who wants the best for his son, and Sunny gives the young teenager lessons of the streets.
Robert De Niro made his directorial debut and starred in the film with Chazz Palminteri. Palminteri originally created A Bronx Tale as a one-man Broadway show. After De Niro witnessed the show in New York City, the two men collaborated to ultimately create the film version of the Broadway show.
