The late Brittany Murphy is the subject of a new Lifetime biopic, The Brittany Murphy Story. The network announced the mate-for-TV movie on Wednesday and when it will air.
Actress Amanda Fuller (Last Man Standing, Grey's Anatomy) has been cast as Brittany. Sherilyn Fenn of (Twin Peaks, Ray Donovan) will portray Brittany's mother, Sharon Murphy.
The film will begin with Brittany's earlier life, showing how her mother was her main support system, notes The New York Daily News. It will also show how her mother played a role in getting her daughter's talents noticed in the '80s and '90s. It will also lead up to the star's death and the aftermath, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
THR also notes that Lifetime has not discussed their sources for the script, but a spokesperson for Sharon Murphy stated that she has not been been consulted for the film, nor worked with the production in any way.
Brittany died on Sept. 20, 2009 at age 32, allegedly due to pneumonia. Her husband, Simon Monjack, passed away the same way five months later. However, Murphy's father Angelo Bartolotti later alleged that she was poisoned when he claimed Barium, a rat poison, was found in her hair, notes the Daily News.
Brittany started out on television, before breaking out onto the film scene. She starred in Clueless, Girl Interrupted and 8 Mile.
The Brittany Murphy Story is set to air on Lifetime on Sept. 6.
