Casey Kasem's widow explains why she picked Norway to bury legendary DJ: It 'looks like heaven'

Casey Kasem, the legendary American DJ who died two months ago, is going to be buried in Oslo, Norway, even though he appeared to have no connection to the country. His widow, Jean Kasem, now has an explanation for her decision, which Kasem’s children are annoyed with.

This week, it was reported by Norwegian press that Jean planned on burying Kasem there, news that Kerri Kasem’s private investigator confirmed. Kasem’s body is already out of the U.S. and is in a Montreal funeral home. From there, the body will be moved to a cemetery in Oslo.

At first, this decision infuriated Kasem’s children, who were already embroiled in a feud over their father’s care before he died on June 15 at age 82. They want him buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California, where they say he wanted to be buried.

“Check the exhumation laws there; sounds like a possibility that is the reason she will bury him there,” Mike Kasem told The Hollywood Reporter. “My dad deserves to be buried where he specifically asked to be buried: Forest Lawn. Everyone keeps asking for motives as to why Jean acts how she acts. I don't have an answer.”

But in a letter to the Norwegian government obtained by NBC News, Jean claims that she plans on moving to Norway because her mother’s family was from there.

“My heritage on my mother's side is Norwegian and I plan to move to Norway by the end of this year, therefore, I would also like to be near my husband's resting place so my daughter and I could visit him often,” she wrote.

She also claims that Kasem "always said that Norway symbolizes peace and looks like heaven and I would like to respectfully fulfill his wishes."

“The bottom line is, Jean is hiding from authorities,” a rep for Kerri told People. “She's hiding the body away from the authorities, family and friends.”

Kasem was once one of the most popular DJ’s in the country as host of American Top 40. He was also a prolific voice actor, most famously voicing Shaggy in Scooby-Doo cartoons.
