First trailer for Johnny Depp comedy 'Mortdecai' drops

By Kyle Johnson,

The first trailer for Johnny Depp's upcoming Mortdecai dropped on Tuesday showing off the silly title character.

The short, minute and a half trailer shows off Depp as Charlie Mortdecai, who you first learn is "a bit of a moron actually," which proves quite true as it cuts to a scene of him accidentally shooting another man while preparing to join others for skeet shooting.

The rest of the trailer quickly shows the debonair art collector examining crime scenes and being hit with a car before dressing down a hotel employee over not needing help with his bag since he has a hulking manservant.

The film, which is directed by David Koepp and co-written by Eric Aronson and Peter Baynham, is based off Kyril Bonfiglioli's book series.

Mortdecai follows the title character as he tries to track down a stolen painting that is said to have a code that goes to a bank account with Nazi gold. He must contend with terrorists and the MI-5 as he goes on the hunt.

Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Oliver Pratt, Aubrey Plaza and Gwyneth Paltrow also star in the film.

Mortdecai hits theaters Feb. 6.
