With all these celebrities now doing the ALS ice bucket challenge to raise awareness of the disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, many of them are becoming boring, even if it’s all for a good cause. However, the Foo Fighters decided to shake things up, taking inspiration from two of the celebrities they have challenged in their video.
At the start of the clip, Dave Grohl nominates comedian Jack Black, actor John Travolta and author Stephen King. Now, for those wondering why Grohl appears to be wearing a dress, the camera moves to reveal that they are at a prom.
The video is a send-up to the iconic scene in the 1976 original Carrie, which was based on King’s novel and featured Travolta in a supporting part. However, instead of pig’s blood, the other members of the group dump ice water on Grohl. Of course, just like in the movie, Grohl has some surprises for his tormentors.
Grohl was nominated by Zac Brown. The group’s video was uploaded on Tuesday, but already has 1.57 million views.
The ice bucket challenge has been picked up by countless celebrities already, all nominating other celebrities to do it as well. Interestingly, Zoe Saldana’s video appeared to be the first time she publicly acknowledged that she’s pregnant (although it’s obvious by now anyway).
Corey Griffin, one of the men who helped kick off the fundraising cause, died over the weekend after drowning. He was just 27.
