Former NBA player Greg Oden was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend.
According to the Associated Press, Oden was arrested outside his mother’s home in Indianapolis.
He was charged with battery.
Lawrence, Indiana, police captain Gary Woodruff told Fox 59 that there were no weapons used in the incident and that it will be a misdemeanor battery charge.
Police were called to Oden’s mother’s home after receiving a report that indicated a woman had been punched in the face. Another woman there identified Oden as the perpetrator.
Oden’s ex-girlfriend refused medical attention.
Oden told officers that he and the woman had broken up two months ago and that he knew hitting her was wrong and he accepts the consequences.
Oden was the first overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft after playing for one season at Ohio State. He went from midway through the 2009 NBA season until last year without playing an NBA game when the Miami Heat signed him.
Last season he averaged 2.9 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game in 23 games.
