Jon Voight was not at his daughter Angelina Jolie’s wedding this past weekend, but he has no hard feelings. The Ray Donovan star said that he is happy that he can finally call Brad Pitt his legal son-in-law.
While chatting with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Voight said he was very happy for the couple.
“I'm very happy that I can legitimately call him my son-in-law, this wonderful fellow who I love,” Voight told the show, reports the Daily Mail. “You know what they are very happy. The kids must have had a wonderful time at the wedding, they all had their things to do and it must have been very beautiful so I'm very happy for them.”
Voight explained that he hopes to see them soon, but they are busy on making a movie together, called By The Sea. “She's working now with Brad, and I've got a couple of things to do, but as soon as we can we'll get together and it's going to be exciting,” the actor said.
Voight found out about the marriage at the same time the rest of the world did, Thursday morning. A rep for the couple told the AP that they tied the knot in France in a small ceremony that only included friends and family. Later, it was reported that Voight wasn’t invited.
Had Voight gone, he likely would have missed out on the Emmys, which were Monday. He was nominated for his part in Ray Donovan, but lost to Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul. Perhaps not inviting her father was part of Jolie’s plan to keep the wedding under wraps. If Voight missed the Emmys, that might have sparked some questions.
Pitt and Jolie met while shooting Mr. & Mrs. Smith back in 2005 and have six children together.
Voight told the Daily Mail that he really likes Pitt, so he’s happy with Jolie’s choice. “'I really like Brad, we get to bond by playing golf together,” Voight said.
