Actress Lake Bell has found a follow-up to her acclaimed directing debut, In A World.... The Children's Hospital star will direct the film adaptation of The Emperor’s Children, which will be written by Frances Ha filmmaker Noah Baumbach.
The book was written by Claire Messud and published in 2006. As Variety notes, the story is set in New York City and finds a group of friends in their 20s who come into the life of a famous journalist around the time before and after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Baumbach was set to direct at one point.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be produced by Image Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins.
Bell was last seen on the big screen opposite Jon Hamm in Disney’s Million Dollar Arm. Her next film is The Coup with Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan. She is also in Simon Pegg’s Man Up.
In A World... was an acclaimed indie hit last year and also starred Bell. She won a screenwriting award at the Sundance Film Festival. It’s not known if she will appear onscreen in The Emperor’s Children, though.
