Maroon 5 to perform at MTV VMAs a week before new album 'V' comes out

By Daniel S Levine,

Maroon 5 has a new album coming out, which means that you’ll be hearing a lot from Adam Levine this fall outside of The Voice. Among the group’s upcoming appearances will be a stop at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, marking a first for the band.

MTV said that the group will perform a new song from the album V. The record is coming out on Sept. 2, about a week after the VMAs on Aug. 24.

Maroon 5 has never performed at the VMAs, but they do have a few moonmen in their trophy case. They won Best New Artist in 2004, beating Kanye West. In 2007, they took home Best Group and their “Payphone” video won Best Pop Video in 2012.

The group announced their fifth album in May. The music will feature the return of keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, who left the group before they recorded Overexposed.

As for this year’s VMA nominees, Beyonce earned the most with eight, while Eminem and Iggy Azalea scored seven each. Voting is still open.

The VMAs take place on Aug. 24 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Other performers include Usher and Ariana Grande.
