Music legend Neil Young filed for divorce from his wife, Pegi, last month. The couple frequently worked together on music projects and were married for 36 years.
The news was first reported by Rolling Stone on Tuesday. The magazine noted that Neil filed the divorce petition in San Mateo, California on July 29. A rep for the singer did not comment.
A court hearing was scheduled for Dec. 12.
Neil and Pegi were frequent collaborators and she was his inspiration for songs like “Such A Woman” and “Once An Angel.” She started singing backup for Neil in the 1990s and even performed with him during the 1994 Academy Awards. Their last performance together was at the Bridge School Benefit in October last year.
As the Toronto Star notes, the couple have two children; Ben, who has cerebral palsy, and Amber. Ben’s ailment inspired Pegi to create the Bridge School to educate children with speech and physical ailments.
Pegi has had a music career herself, releasing three solo albums and going on a short U.S. club tour. Neil just toured with Crazy Horse in Europe. It appears that Pegi has withdrawn from the 2014 FarmAid concert on Sept. 13.
Neil recently released A Letter Home in April.
