Nick Cannon will reportedly suffer financial consequences if he publicly discusses his separation and anticipated divorce with Mariah Carey.
As we previously reported on Thursday, Cannon, 33, made a public announcement stating that he and Carey have been “living in separate houses for months.”
According to TMZ, the couple have signed a confidentiality agreement that essentially prohibits the TV personality from discussing the split publicly at all.
The same cannot be said for Carey however, who, according to the agreement, can discuss the divorce publicly at her will.
Consequently, unless Cannon concocts more cryptic statements alluding to - but not directly confirming - a divorce, the mention of the couple's living arrangements is more than likely all the public is going to get until Carey decides to speak up.
A video of Cannon ignoring paparazzi as they bombarded him with questions about the divorce on Thursday suggests that he plans on respecting the agreement.
Property settlements and matters of child custody have reportedly already been legally resolved.
UPDATE: Mariah Carey's rep has commented on the situation, telling Us Weekly, "I don't comment on Mariah's personal life, but Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour."
