Shakhtar Donetsk FC stadium damaged in shelling

Shakhtar Donetsk FC’s stadium in Donetsk, Ukraine was damaged by explosion from a shelling in the city.

According to Shakhtar Donetsk, at six a.m in Dontesk, the northwest part of the stadium was hit by two explosion’s and the was damage to the communications and equipment areas where damaged along with a separate building of energy.

They also announced that no stadium members where killed or hurt.

Shakhtar Donetsk is the Ukrainian league champion and they are in the Champions League. They have already moved all of their home Champions League game to the Ukrainian City of Lviv because of the violence in the surrounding area, according to BBC.

The shelling follows a late July strike of six Shakhtar Donetsk players who did not want to return to Donetsk or the Ukraine, following a game in France, the president of the club, Rinat Akhemtov, told the players that they had nothing to fear in coming back to the city.

The stadium has held big games in the past couple of years, including two Euro 2012 group games for England and a semi-final from the same year between Spain and Portugal. Manchester United also played there during last season’s Champions League.
