By Mila Whiteley,

Many fairy tales have evil step-mothers, out to thwart the happiness of their stepchildren. On today's episode of The View, Sherri Shepherd announced that she has snagged the iconic role of Cinderella’s evil stepmother in the most recent Broadway adaptation of the Rodgers & Hammerstein’s award-winning musical.

This news followed the announcement that Keke Palmer has been cast as Cinderella, the first African-American to play the title role on Broadway, according to TheCelebrityCafe.com.

Shepherd has been a host on The View for a seven-year run that will end at the end of this week. She will then make her Broadway debut on Sept. 9 in the role of Madame, reports Broadway World.

Along with co-hosting The View, Shepherd has acted in numerous television shows, such as 30 Rock, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Joan of Arcadia. She also recently competed in a series of Dancing with the Stars, honing dancing skills that are sure to serve her well in the Broadway show of Cinderella.
