The singer and reality star’s highly anticipated “hip hopera” Rebellious Soul: The Musical will air on the network tonight at 10 p.m.
K. Michelle’s 30-minute musical will be about a young woman who tries to break free of the cycle of bad romance, focusing on such themes as “lust, love, heartache and redemption,” BET reports. Based around the musical is music from Michelle’s debut album, Rebellious Soul, the show will feature nine singles from the album, including “V.S.O.P.” one of her top hits.
Michelle has also enlisted Golden Globe winner Idris Elba to direct the television musical. The singer has been friends with the critically acclaimed actor for some time, yet she was still surprised when he agreed to direct the special. "I'm really good friends with Idris, and when I told him about it, he said he wanted to do it. I thought he was joking at first," according toThe Associated Press.
The singer was thrust into the spotlight when she joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, where her musical talent was put on display. Despite this, Michelle hasn’t forgotten her reality show roots; she will be starring in a second reality show on Vh1, this time documenting her career and her role as a mother, debuting this fall.
