Time Warner Cable working to restore Internet service after outages reported

By Daniel Levine,

Time Warner Cable subscribers across the country were without Internet access for several hours early this morning. The company is now working to restore service and said that it should already be back for many.

Outage reports on DownDetector spiked at around 6 a.m. ET, with over 9,700 reports at that time. BusinessInsider reports that the outages began around 3 a.m. ET and were reported throughout the country, but concentrated on the East Coast. There were reports throughout Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina, Texas and Southern California as well.

After the reports, TWC did explain on Twitter that they are “working to restore services to all areas as quickly as possible.”

TWC vice president for public relations Bobby Amirshahi told USA Today that routine maintenance at 4:30 a.m. ET was to blame. “As of 6 a.m. ET, services were largely restored as updates continue to bring all customers back online,” he explained.

TWC has 11.4 million high-speed Internet subscribers throughout 29 states. Back in February, Comcast agreed to buy TWC for $45.2 billion.
