Chipotle branch closes, employees blame work conditions

A Chipotle restaurant at State College in Pennsylvania closed on September 10 after its workers and managers resigned.

The restaurant was reportedly closed after many of the branch’s workers and managers quit, according to StateCollege.com.

A sign on the restaurant’s window door said that the reason for the staff’s resignation was because of the “borderline sweatshop conditions” they worked in.

Brian Healy, a former manager of the State College Chipotle restaurant, said that the branch was highly understaffed and that the corporation wasn’t helping them, according to OnwardState. He said that this caused longer work shifts for those workers and no breaks.

“We just felt so neglected,” Healy told the site, adding that the working conditions at that restaurant were terrible. “I’m not trying to take down the Chipotle corporation, I just want to see people treated better. We’re not trying to start a strike or anything like that.”

By about 12:45 pm, they were contacted by Chris Arnold, a Chipotle spokesperson, who told them that the Chipotle restaurant would be re-opening soon after. Arnold also told them that the allegations weren’t connected with the restaurant’s ideology.

Chipotle was reported re-opened at 5:31pm.
