Discontinued Surge soda makes triumphant return

'90s kids rejoice! Coca-cola's SURGE soda was discontinued in the early 2000's but thanks to a Facebook campaign called "The SURGE Movement," kids from the '90s decade can relive the nostalgia of their favorite soda once again.

"The SURGE Movement" campaign was created in 2011 has more than 100,000 likes on Facebook. This group is serious when it comes to bringing SURGE back to the masses.

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, the creators of the campaign raised $3,800 so they could place a billboard near the Coca-Cola company's headquarters in Atlanta asking them to bring the soda back.

Coca-Cola responded to the campaign by announcing the re-release of SURGE on September 15. SURGE is currently being sold through
Amazon, but good luck trying to get your hands on one of these soda cans. Amazon shows that SURGE is currently out of stock but you can still sign up to be notified when the highly desired soda cans become available again.

Racquel Mason, associate vice president of sparkling flavors of Coca-Cola North America, talked about Coke's partnership with Amazon.

“In this new era of marketing, we’re exploring segmented delivery of our portfolio to consumers. Previously, a smaller brand would never have had a realistic shot at commercialization. Now with Amazon, consumers can order a product like SURGE and have it delivered directly to their doorstep. It’s the democratization of demand," Mason said, according to Coca-Cola's company website.

Now that companies see that niche products like SURGE can still churn a profit, we can only wonder what other popular products from the past will make a comeback.
