Linebacker John Abraham leaves Cardinals, suffering severe memory loss

After suffering a concussion during Monday night’s game, John Abraham may be ready to call it a career.

According to AZCentral Sports, the Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman has left the team and may be thinking about retiring from the NFL.

Abraham’s possible move to retire from the sport stems from a concussion he suffered in a game against the San Diego Chargers in Week One.

ESPN noted that sources have said that the 36-year-old is suffering from severe memory loss and has been for more than a year now.

The Cardinals got a roster exemption for Abraham and have added outside linebacker Marcus Benard. He played in 12 games for the Cards last season, but was released by the team on Aug. 30 when the roster was trimmed down to 53.

Abraham was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2000 draft. He also played for the Atlanta Falcons before heading over to Arizona in 2013.

The five-time Pro Bowler is the league’s active leader in sacks. If he does decide to hang it up this year, his 133.5 will rank ninth all time in NFL history.
