Top 10 Important Scenes in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' trailer

For once, something did not go according to plan for Marvel. The studio had intended to unveil the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron during Tuesday’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. However, the trailer leaked earlier last night, forcing Marvel to act.

The Disney-owned studio quickly responded to the leak by just posting a full, HD version of the trailer itself. In just over 12 hours, the trailer has racked up 8.416 million views. Clearly, the anticipation for the film could not be higher.

Age of Ultron will be the end point for Marvel’s Phase 2 films, which began with Iron Man 3 in May 2013. It is the direct follow-up to The Avengers, which came out in 2012 and smashed just about every box office record it could. (It still failed to pass Avatar for the top-grossing film of all time, though.)

Like Avengers, Age of Ultron was written and directed by Joss Whedon. It will bring all the Marvel characters from the previous films together again, although it doesn’t look like they found a way to work the Guardians of the Galaxy into it yet.

Since the film won’t be released until May 1, 2015, this trailer is all we have to go on. We know that some serious sh*t is going to go down when Ultron gains some intelligence and there will be a reason for Iron Man to bring out the Hulkbuster armor, but there’s not much else revealed.

Still, let’s break down the 10 awesome moments of, and questions raised by, the two-minute trailer.

[new page = widespread destruction]

You can’t have a Marvel movie without widespread destruction and it looks like Age of Ultron is going to have a lot of stuff blowing up. At the beginning, Ultron calls people screaming for mercy “something beautiful.” There will likely be a lot of that.

[new page = Beat up heroes]

Our heroes are beat up and there must be some reason why Tony Stark isn’t in this scene. Captain America, the Black Widow, Thor and Bruce Banner all look pretty mad at someone.

[new page = Ultron first walks]

Our heroes are pretty surprised to see a worn down Ultron suddenly walking on its own power. It then picks up the Iron Patriot armor and breaks the head. Ultron means business.

[new page = Cap escaping]

Cap is clearly being held somewhere isolated and he has to escape. How did he get there? Why is he there? Why is he also able to just kick down the door and walk out?

[new page = Bruce in the snow]

Someone must think that throwing Bruce Banner in a cold, isolated area will keep him from disrupting plans as The Hulk. It’s probably not a good idea.

[new page = Who is that]

There are a couple of mysterious shots in the trailer, including one of this woman looking out a window, standing in an empty building. Who could that be?
Another bizarre shot shows ballerinas during the montage at the end. What’s that about? Is Black Swan part of the MCU?

[new page = The Twins]

Ultron is taking the twins - Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) - somewhere. The two appear frequently in the later parts of the trailer, but it’s not known how they fit in exactly. Clearly, their powers are very important for Ultron.

[new page = The path I started us on]

In the MCU, Tony Stark is the one who created Ultron and it’s clear that he’s done something to start the battle with the robots. “It’s the end... the end of the path I started us on,” Tony says.

“Nothing lasts forever,” replies Black Widow.

[new page = Hulkbuster suit]

It was really cool to see Tony’s Hulkbuster armor in motion. CGI certainly has reached a new point where the armor looks seamless in a real-world environment. While we knew that the armor was going to make an appearance, we still don’t know exactly why it’s needed. Why does Tony have to stop the Hulk? Is the Hulk under some mind control?

[new page = James Spader’s voice]

If there was any doubt about James Spader as the voice of Ultron, he put that to rest with the trailer. He has the perfect, chilling voice for the role. Hearing him quote “I’ve Got No Strings” from Pinocchio was very creepy.
