'Parenthood' recap: 'Lean In'

The episode begins with the students of Chambers Academy preparing for an open house. Max and Dylan are partnered together for a math project. Dylan tells Kristina she cannot be partners with Max anymore. Kristina ignores Dylan's request for a new partner. Max keeps pushing for Dylan to like him and Max tells Dylan he has a difficult time showing physical affection, but he can try it for her. During the open house night, Max tries to be physically affectionate towards Dylan when Dylan's parents catch Max grabbing Dylan. Her parents get very upset, and Adam gets into an argument with Dylan's parents.

Julia agrees to have lunch with Joel at a restaurant they used to frequent a lot while still a couple. Being together in this restaurant with so many memories of their lives together brought back a lot of uncertainty to sign the divorce papers. Joel feels hopeful that there is a chance they can still be together.

Drew and Zeek plan a surprise anniversary trip for Camille. Zeek is planning on surprising his wife, Camille, with a trip to France. He wants to take her to an old place they both visited and loved. Despite Zeeks wishes to keep this trip a secret from Camille, Drew tells Camille that Zeek is planning on flying somewhere. He asks to make sure it is safe for Zeek to fly after his recent heart surgery.

Ruby is very excited to learn that she was given the main role in the school play. Sarah and Hank go to the school to see Ruby's play. Sarah bumps into her ex-fiancé, Mark Cyr. Mark tells Sarah he is going to be a father and that he is very happy with his life.

Dylan's parents want to switch Dylan to another school after finding out about Max's "harassment". Dylan tells Mrs. Braverman that she does not want to leave Chambers Academy. Kristina, Adam, and Max go to Dylan's house to apologize to her parents. Max apologizes to both Dylan and her parents. Dylan accepts his apology and says she realizes he cannot help the way he acts sometimes. Dylan's parents agree to let their daughter remain at Chambers Academy, at least till the end of the school year.

With help from his grandson Drew, Zeek finally finds the address of the French restaurant he used to visit. Zeek wants to book a flight to France immediately. When Zeek pulls out his credit card, Drew says he cannot buy the tickets. Drew tells Zeek that Camille knows he is planning on flying. Zeek is let down because he trusted Drew, and Drew told his secret.

Julia tells Chris to stop pressuring her to sign the divorce papers. Chris tells Julia she he will not pressure her any longer. He walks out. Chris and Julia appear to be broken up now.

Zeek tells Camille he wants to fly with her to France for their anniversary. He thinks it might be the last trip they ever take together. She is very excited. She says as long as they go to the doctor and get the okay that Zeek is healthy enough to fly, then they can. They are both very happy to be visiting France again soon.

Hank asks Sarah if she is happy and if this is really where she wants to be. Does she really want to be in a relationship with Hank, and all the baggage tat comes with him. Hank and Sarah's conversation is cut short. Ruby and Hanks ex wife, Ruby's mother, walk into the apartment unexpectedly. Later, when Sarah and Hank are alone again, Sarah tells Hank that she IS happy.

Julia goes to Joel's place and tells him to sign the divorce papers. She signs the papers and hands Joel the pen, but Joel doesn't sign the papers. Instead, he kisses Julia and she kisses him back. It looks like Julia and Joel will not be going through with the divorce after all.

Zeek has a heart attack in the middle of the night. Camille wakes up and notices her husband is having complications. She calls an ambulance. The episode ends.
