NBC News investigating Brian Williams, Tom Brokaw denies reports he wants him fired

With the media and Internet’s continued obsession with NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams’ fake Iraq War story, NBC News is now going to launch an investigation. Meanwhile, there were reports that Williams’ predecessor, Tom Brokaw, wants Williams fired.

Williams has already apologized for saying that he was on a helicopter shot by an RPG in 2003 in Iraq when he wasn’t. However, Twitter users continued to mock him, with #BrianWilliamsMisremembering trending into Friday.

His stories about his experiences in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina are also being called into question.

Sources told The New York Daily News that NBC News is launching an independent investigation into Williams.

Meanwhile, an anonymous NBC source told The New York Post that Brokaw, who Williams replaced as Nightly News anchor in 2004, wants Williams “immediately fired or suspended.”

Brokaw later told The Huffington Post that this isn’t true.

“I have neither demanded nor suggested Brian be fired,” Brokaw said. “His future is up to Brian and NBC News executives.”

NBC Nightly News is considered the one stable show at NBC News, as both The Today Show and Meet The Press have struggled in the ratings. So, it would make sense if they are apprehensive about firing or suspending Williams.
