Staff Picks: Shows We Can Binge-Watch

Binge-watching is now a thing and it’s not something that is going to suddenly go away. With Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and other streaming services easier than ever to just sit and watch episode-after-episode of your favorite shows, it’s a habit that has taken over the world.

With that in mind - and the fact that many parts of the country are still dealing with snow - everyone at TheCelebrityCafe.com thought about shows we love to binge-watch. You can share your thoughts below!

Will Ashton: Even at the terribly obvious risk of being cliche, I have to pick Breaking Bad as my favorite binge-watching series. In passing or in times of stress relief, I turn to old episodes of The Simpsons or Whose Line is it Anyway. Sometimes, especially of late, I'll sneak an episode of some Adult Swim series like Check it Out with Dr. Steve Brule, Robot Chicken or The Eric Andre Show. However, there has never been any moments of television as heartpounding, alluring and demanding of my attention than BB. It's about as perfect of a show as can be, in my opinion, and I can only hope that now that Walter White's legacy is done, Saul's will be just as fascinating in Better Call Saul.

Samantha Ravenscroft: The two shows that I can sit and binge watch for hours are Gilmore Girls and Once Upon A Time. Gilmore Girls was a show me and my mom watched together all the time, and I just love Lorelai's and Rory's dynamic. And then OUAT is simply a captivating story. I love seeing all the different twists of the classic fairytales and I can't wait to see if Emma gets the characters back to their true homes.

Robby Sabo: Regardless of the fact that I know every word of every episode, for some reason I can pop the DVDs for Seinfeld and The Honeymooners and have laughing party all by my lonesome. Why? I have no idea. Just great characters I guess.

Daniel S Levine: Robby, I have to agree that I can watch Seinfeld non-stop. But recently, I’ve become addicted to the three-season wonder that is Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I just love the mix of classic DC Silver Age characters with modern humor. The episodes with Bat-Mite - including the series finale - are absolutely priceless.

Elizabeth Learned: I don't binge-watch as much as I'd like to, but the two shows I can watch in one sitting are Criminal Minds and Charmed. I've always loved procedural crime dramas and shows, and Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows to watch. I got into Charmed late in the series when it was on, but it is one of my favorite shows since it has amazing magic and a great message about family.

Carissa Shuman: I became such a big fan of Once Upon a Time, that I was checking out blogs and what others had to say about it. I came across quite a few comparisons between it and Lost, also created by Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis. Not only did they use many of the same actors, but Once Upon a Time pays homage in many little ways. For example, in the season 2 episode where Emma and Neal are shoplifting, one of the things he steals is an Apollo candy bar. I decided that I had to watch the Lost series so that these extra tid bits wouldn't be "lost" on me. I inadvertently marathoned the show, and watched all six seasons within a couple of weeks. Now that I've seen it all the way through, I think I'd marathon it again to see what I might have missed and I'd probably have to marathon the first three seasons of Once Upon a Time again as well to note any cross references I haven't caught already.

There is one other show that I've started watching on Netflix that I like to binge watch, and that is Dr. Who (the newer version). I remember watching it in the early '80s, and it's gotten pretty popular all over again, so I watched the first season in about one week. If I was snowed in it is very probable that I would binge watch the rest of the seasons available for streaming.

Without Netflix, I'd still have my Once Upon a Time DVDs, but I may also watch my DVD collection of The Universe, or perhaps my husband's VHS recordings of Babylon 5. So much to binge on, so little time!

Tina Henry: My husband and I were binge-watch virgins until we happened to watch our first Sopranos episode, which was, I believe, during its fourth season. That one episode got us so interested that we went to Blockbuster (yes, this was when they still had video rental stores) and we rented the first season. We were hooked and quickly caught up to the at-that-time current episode on TV. We went back to Blockbuster and began binge watching several other shows we had missed out on in their first run. We dropped the habit eventually. My husband binge-watched Breaking Bad on his computer to catch up to where he first got interested in it. I don't particularly care for watching shows on my computer, and I'm bad about returning DVDs to Netflix, so the only binge watching I do these days is of the various Law & Orders, Modern Family, NCIS, etc. - basically most any show that I missed the first run of but catch in syndication on either USA or TNT, both of which can be counted on to run marathons. Word out to Robby: You have great taste!

Gina DiFalco: Thanks to Netflix, we can binge-watch anything they have. It can be frustrating waiting for shows to make it to the streaming service but the ones that have me completely hooked are Orange is the New Black and Scandal. I also love to binge-watch Game of Thrones, Girls, Modern Family and Californication. My all-time favorite show to binge-watch, however, is Friends! Thank you, Netflix. for finally adding it.

Marie Blake: I can binge-watch Parks and Recreation for hours! The show is hilarious and every episode involves something different. It's the one show where new characters are added and make it even better. The fact that each episode is about 30 minutes makes it easy to breeze through. I've been hooked since the first episode and will surely miss it.

Anna Rose Meeds: Growing up, I did not watch many television shows. As I grew older, however, my love of the United Kingdom grew. Because of that, I began to watch British shows. There are many great ones. However, sitting and watching Downton Abbey is my favorite because you feel so cozy snuggled up with that and several kettles of tea. The manners, history, accents, actors, costumes, script, drama, and everything else is just fantastic.
