Eagles re-sign DeMeco Ryans

The Philadelphia Eagles re-signed linebacker DeMeco Ryans to a new contract on Monday.

According to NFL.com, the deal is for two years and is worth $7.5 in base value. The deal could be worth up to $10.5 million and has $6.25 million in guaranteed money. Ryans salary cap number for 2015 goes down with this deal. It goes from $6.9 million to about $3 million. Ryans is now signed through the 2016 season.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said that the Eagles needed to keep Ryans because he “sets the tone for everybody on the defensive side of the ball."

"I like having really good football players," Kelly said. "Mychal (Kendricks) missed some games last year, DeMeco missed games last year, Kiko has missed games. We're trying to accumulate as many good football players as we can."

Ryans is coming off his second torn Achilles tendon in his career. He tore his left Achilles tendon in November and his right Achilles in 2010. The Achilles injury in 2010 caused him to miss the last ten games that year. Last year he had 45 tackles and one interception in eight starts for the Eagles, according to Pro Football Talk.

Ryans joins Kiko Alonso, Mychal Kendricks, Emmanuel Acho, Najee Goode, and Brad Jones. There has been speculation that the Eagles could trade Kendricks.
