Jets file tampering charge against Patriots over Bob Kraft's Darrelle Revis comments

The rivalry between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots took another petty turn on Tuesday when the Jets filed a tampering charge against the Super Bowl champions due to Bob Kraft’s comments about cornerback Darrelle Revis.

In an interview with Comcast SportsNet New England on Monday, the Patriots owner said admitted that he hated to lose Revis, who played a major role in the Super Bowl XLIX win.

“As a fan and in March and April, I hate to lose [Revis],” Kraft said. “But our real focus is what goes on in the fall and the winter. I put my faith and respect with Bill [Belichick] and we have a lot of thorough discussions. He’s done pretty good the last 15 years. The fan in me argues all the time with [Belichick]. But he’s got a pretty good record.”

Kraft later said that they “wanted to keep him,” but it didn’t happen.

Now, those comments are getting Kraft in hot water, at least with the Jets. Pro Football Talk reports that the Jets have already filed a tampering claim.

Of course, the Jets might be doing this just in retaliation for the Patriots filing a tampering claim after Jets owner Woody Johnson made comments about wanting to get Revis back. However, Johnson made his comments before the season was even over and he was still with the Patriots.

"I'd love for Darrelle to come back,”Johnson told reporters. As ESPN notes, Johnson did later say he “misspoke,” but the Patriots still went ahead with the tampering claim in January.

Just five hours after Revis became a free agent on March 11, Revis signed a five-year, $70 million deal to return to the Jets. The Patriots had until March 10 to work out a new contract with Revis after they declined to pick up his $20 million option.

Revis played with the Jets from 2007 to 2012. He spent 2013 with the Buccaneers and 2014 with the Patriots.
