Neil Patrick Harris doesn't think his 'family nor my soul could take' another Oscars hosting gig

Hosting the Oscars is really hard and a no-win situation. Good jokes might make audiences at home laugh, but could leave the A-listers in the crowd insulted. So, it’s not surprising that Neil Patrick Harris doesn’t think he could do it again.

“I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it,” he told The Huffington Post on Wednesday. “It’s a beast. It was fun to check off the list, but for the amount of time spent and the understandable opinionated response, I don’t know that it's a delightful balance to do every year or even again.”

Harris also told the Huffington Post that he didn’t follow all the post-Oscars criticism, but he was still interested by what people had to say. He was curious to find out which jokes people liked and which ones bombed.

The former How I Met Your Mother star also said that he thought the audience in the theater was actually enjoying the show, even as it went well into overtime.

“I was told that as the room fills, with you know it's four-fifths of the room didn’t win, and you get further into the award giving they get less enthusiastic and less excited,” Harris said. “And I felt while we were doing it that people were enjoying themselves more and more, so for that I’m happy.”

Harris’ performance got mixed reviews, as he started off strong with a musical number. However, some of his jokes during the show missed the mark and his magic gag slowed the show, even if it was pulled off perfectly.
