Hulk Hogan sex tape trial gets delayed

Back in 2012, Gawker published a sex tape featuring wrestler Hulk Hogan, who later sued the site. That lawsuit was finally set to go to trial this month, but that has since been delayed.

The trial was supposed to start on July 6, but the Tampa Bay Times reports that a state appellate court ruled that there had been several procedural violations. Pinellas County Judge Pamela Campbell and Hogan’s attorneys missed last month’s deadline to have the trial start sooner rather than later.

Today’s ruling did not suggest a new timeframe for the jury trial to start.

Gawker obtained a 2006 video of Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, having sex with Heather Clem, who was the wife of radio shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge at the time. The site posted 90 seconds of it and Hogan then filed a $100 million lawsuit against the site.

Bubba actually issued an apology to his former friend after suggesting that Hogan knew he was being taped. Bubba, whose real name is Todd Alan Clem, later said that he thinks the tape was made without Hogan’s consent.

While today’s decision was a victory for Gawker, the Times reports that the site has also clashed with the FBI, which is running its own investigation into the sex tape.
