Walmart says it will stop selling semi-automatic weapons

Retail giant Walmart said on Wednesday that it will no longer sell military style and other semi-automatic weapons citing declining sales of the guns.

CNN noted that Walmart spokesman Kory Lundberg said that the retailer would be pulling AR-15 rifles and other semi-automatic weapons from its shelves due to the slumping sales.

Although the announcement was made on the same day a reporter and her cameraman were murdered by a gunman on live TV, Walmart insisted that the move is not political and the decision was actually made months ago.

"We previously carried modern sporting rifles in less than a third of our stores," Lundberg told Forbes. "Our merchandising decisions are driven largely by customer demand. In our everyday course of doing business, we are continually reviewing and adjusting our product assortment to meet our customers' needs."

Walmart is the country’s largest retailer of guns and ammo. The Arkansas-based company said that it does not have any plans to stop selling guns altogether.
