ESPN extends Curt Schilling's suspension over anti-Muslim tweet

ESPN has decided to extend the suspension of baseball analyst Curt Schilling for the rest of the 2015 MLB regular season and the American League Wild Card Game next month.

The network announced on Thursday that Schilling’s suspension, which at the time took him off the Little League World Series telecasts as well as the Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts, has been extended.

"At all times during the course of their engagement with us, our commentators are directly linked to ESPN and are the face of our brand," the company said in a statement. "We are a sports media company. Curt's actions have not been consistent with his contractual obligations, nor have they been professionally handled; they have obviously not reflected well on the company. As a result, he will not appear on ESPN through the remainder of the regular season and our Wild Card playoff game."

As we previously reported, on Aug. 25, the former pitcher retweeted a meme comparing Muslim extremists to Nazis. Schilling later deleted the meme and apologized.

The suspension being extended follows a series of emails between Schilling and bloggers at Awful Announcing in which he defended his character and lashed out at the site.
