24 and "Grey's Anatomy" lead the pack of Emmy nominees
To the surprise of many, neither "Desperate Housewives" nor "Lost" were among the top nominees for this year's Emmy Awards.
Instead, Fox's wildly popular "24" and ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy" were the leading series nominees in Thursday's announcement, with 12 and 11 nominations respectively. Joining them in the best drama series category were "House," "The Sopranos" and "The West Wing."
"Arrested Development" will compete with four new nominees for best comedy series, including "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Two and a Half Men," "The Office" and "Scrubs."
None of the lead actresses from "Desperate Housewives" were nominated, while many of the acting categories were dominated by stars from canceled shows such as "Will & Grace" and "The West Wing."
Notably missing from the nominations were "Weeds" star Mary Louise-Parker, Jason Lee of "My Name is Earl," Ellen Pompeo of "Grey's Anatomy" and Hugh Laurie of "House."
Miniseries "Into the West" was the top nominee of all the categories with 16 nominations.
The Emmy Awards will be broadcast Aug. 27 on NBC from Los Angeles.
