A world record may have been set while pursuing a good cause. Ed Jarrett, a Maine native, led the effort to build a massive sandcastle in order to benefit terminally ill kids. Jarrett organized the Castle to the Sun event as a fundraiser for Camp Sunshine, a camp started for terminally ill children and their families. And in the process of doing a good deed, Jarrett may have set a new record -- the world's tallest sandcastle. Over 1,000 people volunteered to pitch in during the two-month construction effort. The massive structure took 40 dump truck loads of sand, reports Fox News.
This is not Jarrett's first record-breaking sandcastle. In 2003, the Maine man created a 29 ? foot sandcastle in Falmouth, Maine. At the time, the Guinness Book of World Records declared it the tallest ever built. This time around, Jarrett and his helpers have trumped their previous record by a good two feet. The new 31 ft. 7 in. castle is being considered for the title.
