40 Days and 40 Nights for Matthew McConaughey

Everyone knows the costs and benefits of having a child. The tax benefits, the responsibilities, the teenage years. But how many parents also have to worry about giving up sex?

Earlier this month, Matthew McConaughey welcomed his second child, his now three-week-old daughter Vida. During the recovery period, his Brazilian wife, Camila Alves, intends to honor the tradition of a 40-day recovery period which entails no working out, no heavy foods, and no sex.

"Where I come from, we believe in something we call a 40-day break after the baby," the new mother of two said in an interview. "You have to let your body do its own thing. You give it time to recover and let everything settle down."

Vida was born on January 3, meaning the actor has to go a solid 40 days until February 12 before his wife is ready to indulge in physical activity again, just in time for any lover's favorite holiday. Happy Valentine's Day, Mr. McConaughey.
