50 Cent Suing over Internet Ad
Rapper 50 Cent is suing the creators of the violent Internet advertising game, "Shoot the Rapper." He filed a $1 million lawsuit on Friday against Traffix Inc., claiming that the creators used his image without permission.
The game encourages players to shoot a rapper, who walks back and forth across the ad on the top of a web page, by aiming and clicking the mouse at him. If he is shot, then a misty cloud of red appears and the viewer is redirected to another web site advertising the firm's goods and services.
50 Cent's lawyer, Peter Raymond, says that, although the rapper's name is not used, the character is intended to be him.
Raymond said the rapper found out about the ad after one of his management people saw it on MySpace.
The rapper seeks $1 million in actual damages, a permanent injunction against the use of his image without permission, and unspecified punitive damages.
