50 Years of Fun at Disneyland
Disneyland turned 50 on Sunday but every-kid's-favorite-theme-park will always be young at heart. The birthday celebrations included fireworks-and-confetti display and televised images of the park's 1955 launch. Just outside the Sleeping Beauty Castle, stars, fans, and Walt Disney's family members enjoyed the festivities.
"Dad's vision called for this, for Disneyland, to be something that could grow more beautiful every year, and it has," Diane Disney Miller, one of founder Walt Disney's two daughters, said.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made an appearance and emerged from the castle gates with Mickey Mouse's white-gloved hand on his buff shoulder. The Governator praised the theme park's contribution to the state's economy.
"This is an engine that drives California tourism and our economy," he said. "Thank you for 50 wonderful years."
