ABC Announces Show Renewals
ABC has announced the shows the channel is choosing to renew, with viewer favorites leading the pack.
According to an article on hollywoodreporter.com, the list includes popular programs such as Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The Bachelor, America's Funniest Home Videos, Ugly Betty, Supernanny, Wife Swap and Private Practice.
The only new show that has sparked enough viewer interest that its renewal is likely is the crime comedy, Castle, starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.
Yet, according to an article on Variety.com, one show seems to be in noticeable renewal limbo: "The real question marks on ABC's sked remain unanswered, starting with half-hour 'Samantha Who.' Once a solid Monday night performer and shoo-in for renewal, 'Samantha' struggled on Thursdays - so much that the show was pulled two weeks earlier than expected, with seven episodes still in the can. That means 'Samantha' remains on the bubble - although insiders believe the show will ultimately get another season on air."
Another half-hour show whose fate is as yet undetermined is Scrubs, although there have been rumblings about keeping the show afloat until next year, following some cast changes. Also, there is Better of Ted, which stars ex- Ally McBeal cast member Portia de Rossi, which has garnered strong reviews but its ratings haven't been following suit.
Finally, Surviving Suburbia, starring ex-Full House alum Bob Saget could be saved from cancellation "if producer MRC offers to bring back the show at a low license fee," so says the Variety.com article.
