ABC contemplates multicamera comedy
ABC is considering a multicamera family comedy that focuses on a working father, from the creators of one of the most popular comedy series of the 1990s, "Home Improvement."
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "The project, from Matt Williams -- who also created ABC's 'Roseanne' -- Carmen Finestra and David McFadzean, follows a sports psychologist and father of three who runs his office out of his home and faces the challenges of being an involved dad in today's world. The sitcom, which has received a script commitment with penalty from the network, is being produced by ABC Studios."
Williams, Finestra and McFadzean will be the show's executive producers under their Wind Dancer Prods. banner.
ABC seems to be on the prowl for this type of comedy since the network recently purchased a multicamera comedy from Garland Testa, the executive producer of Fox's "King of the Hill."
The HollywoodReporter.com article concludes by stating, "ABC is the second network to turn to one of its biggest multicamera hits for a new comedy with a similar setting. This month, Fox handed a cast-contingent pilot order to 'The Rednecks & Romeos,' a multicamera ensemble coming-of-age comedy from 'That '70s Show' co-creator/executive producer Mark Brazill and exec producer Tom Werner."
