Academy announces Oscar nominations

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 84th Academy Awards. The nominees included several surprises, including the Academy’s decision to nominate nine films for Best Picture.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the nominations were announced by actress Jennifer Lawrence and Academy president Tom Sherak. Martin Scorsese’s Hugo was the most nominated film, receiving 11 nominations. The awards will be handed out on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. EST on ABC.
