The Academy Awards marks one of the biggest nights of the year in film. Though we already know who had the best performances of the year, whose dresses were the best?
Best Dressed:
Jennifer Lawrence looks absolutely stunning in a simple red Calvin Klein dress. As a first-time nominee, Lawrence definitely knows how to hit it out of the park on the red carpet. She doesn’t go for anything over-the-top but her long loose hair and lack of jewelry makes this a great look.
Hailee Steinfeld looks absolutely radiant in her champagne/cream colored long Marchesa ballgown. The young star wears this dress with sparkles all over it and it looks strapless until you look closer and see that there’s a sheer/lace transparent material for the straps.
Mila Kunis wears a gorgeous color of lavender. This Elie Saab dress is a bit too low in the front, but it’s too pretty not to put her on the best dressed list. This color is great for her hair and skin color and it flows very beautifully on her figure.
Michelle Williams shines in this short sleeved Chanel dress. It’s white/pale blue-ish which surprisingly looks great with her pale hair and features. The dress is quite stylish and fits her very nicely as it falls straight to the ground.
Amy Adams truly looks like a nominee in this midnight blue sparkled L’Wren Scott dress. The sleeves stretch right over her shoulders, and the tight fit looks great on her and the color is great with her features. Her choice of necklace also fits well with the look.
Jennifer Hudson looks absolutely amazing in this bright tangerine Versace dress. The dress shows off Hudson’s slimmed down figure. It is low cut with huge ruffles on the skirt. This is a perfect pick for her.
Gwyneth Paltrow is stunning in this Calvin Klein dress with a low slit down the front. She looks sleek and silver and her hairstyle fits nicely with her look.
Natalie Portman looks like one of the top actresses of the year in this Rodarte purple off the shoulder gown. The sleeves are beaded, but other than that, the dress is pretty simple, showing off Portman’s baby bump. The bottom is extremely loose and flowing, giving the dress a gorgeous look.
Sandra Bullock looks great in this red Vera Wang dress. Though several stars have picked red gowns to match the red carpet, Bullock definitely shines in this dress.
Worst Dressed:
Melissa Leo is just a bit off the mark in this white Marc Bouwer dress. The cut-out flower shapes, high collar, and reflective quality of the dress just don’t seem up to par with the caliber of the event.
Scarlett Johansson looks great in this dark red color, but this Dolce and Gabbana dress isn’t her best look. The lace is a bit odd because it’s hard to tell if the dress is see-through or not, and the look and her hair both come off as a bit messy.
Helena Bonham Carter promotes her own tastes as usual in this Colleen Atwood black velvet dress. The sleeves and straps are quite odd strips of fabric which then seem to flow into a long sleeved look. The top is like a corset while the bottom flows out.
Nicole Kidman has a lot going on with her Dior dress. It looks a bit too busy, and I really wish that Kidman would wear a color other than white. The silver designs on the front attempt to make it more exciting, but there’s just too much fabric.
Undecided:
Mandy Moore looks both good and bad in Monique Lhuillier. Her hair and the dress in general are not that great, but I do love the sleeves on the dress which are sort of half sleeves which sparkle as does the entire dress.
Hilary Swank does look good in this Gucci silver sparkled dress, however, I’m undecided about the combination of the sparkles and feathers on the bottom of the dress, and the strapless look may not be the right fit for her.
