Actor Recounts His Experiences Lip Locking with Angelina Jolie
James McAvoy accomplished in one scene an objective that has become the fantasy for many a man: the chance to kiss Angelina Jolie.
When asked to relay his experience on Today, however, he found it "awkward."During his interview with Ann Curry, McAvoy reiterated his first minutes spent meeting Jolie, introducing himself before promptly saying "by the way, we are going to do a kissing scene now."
McAvoy has had experience with romantic scenes before, having kissed Keira Knightley in Atonement, a film that has since received an Oscar. However, he reminded Curry that while kissing may appear to be enjoyable to fans, it is actually the most challenging part of the job for actors.
Despite this challenge, McAvoy related to Curry that he was able to see Jolie's true persona after kissing her, calling her a very "chilled-out, good and fun person."
While she may be a good person outside of the camera, McAvoy mentioned that she hit him hard as they were filming scenes for what would be his first "popcorn" movie. McAvoy added that in practicing the "panic attacks" his character had, he actually overacted and passed out.
However, these setbacks paled in comparison to the film's positive reception. McAvoy mentioned that the audience cheered and clapped during the film's appearance in Los Angeles, an experience that he is unfamiliar with in his native Scotland or in his current England home.
McAvoy called the positive reinforcement "very, very strange; people don't do that back home."
