Actor Tom Cruise Returns to Theaters in ‘Knight and Day’

Cruise stars alongside Cameron Diaz in the action-comedy film

On Wednesday, actor Tom Cruise appeared in Seville, Spain for the international premiere of his upcoming action-comedy film Knight and Day. The 47-year-old actor stars alongside actress Cameron Diaz in his first film appearance since 2008. According to the Montreal Gazette, Cruise has detrimentally affected his popularity and reputation due to a plethora of public-relations disasters that have occurred over the last five years.

The outspoken Scientologist, who infamously leaped on a couch during his 2005 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show to confess his love for his current spouse Katie Holmes, made several controversial comments during that time span. Cruise claimed that methadone was named after Adolf Hitler and psychiatry was a Nazi science.

The actor criticized actress Brooke Shields for using antidepressants and described his practice by saying, “When you’re a Scientologist and you drive by an accident, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you’re the only one who can really help.”

However, he has managed to re-enter the spotlight and potentially rise to stardom once again as a result of the character he portrays in Knight and Day as well as his infamous Les Grossman persona. Prior to the 2010 MTV Movie Awards earlier this month, he portrayed Grossman in pre-awards show promotional advertisements.

His dance-off with Latin diva Jennifer Lopez during the ceremony was regarded as one of the most memorable moments from the show, and it appears that the public may be willing to forgive Cruise for his baffling commentary over the past five years.
