On Tuesday, a mysterious Mortal Kombat movie short starring actor Michael Jai White as Jax and actress Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade was unveiled on the World Wide Web. The movie short lasts for nearly eight minutes, but it never specified whether it is promoting the next game in the Mortal Kombat franchise or a film. According to MTV Multiplayer, Ryan has revealed that the video is part of a pitch that an unidentified director created in an attempt capture the attention of Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc.
She turned to her Twitter account to provide details about the Mortal Kombat movie short. Ryan, who starred in Star Trek: Voyager, tweeted, “Okay, so... Mortal Kombat. It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was. And I’m not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful...! ;-)”
During the summer of 1995, the original Mortal Kombat film was released and its sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, hit theaters two years later. However, the movie short that was unveiled on Tuesday was far more dark, twisted and adult in nature than the first two action-adventure films that were released in the mid-late 1990’s.
